The main reasons for its establishment were to provide college educational services to high school graduates who could not pursue college education in Manila or neighboring provinces due to financial constraints and to prepare teachers for mission schools of the Mindoro provinces.
Divine Word College of Calapan, envisions itself as an academic Christian community in the service of the Word and the people of God, working together in faith towards the total development of the person, faithful to the teaching and tradition of the church, under the patronage of St. Arnold Janssen and the inspiration and guidance of the Holy and Triune God.

Divine Word College of Calapan, as an academic Christian community, subscribes and binds itself to develop, enhance and strengthen the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical capabilities of the person, through its religious, educational and administrative services consistent with its thrust of professionalism and excellence.

The institution produced high-rated people in the fields of engineering, accountancy, etc. Faculty members, students and the entire community proved to the province’s heart that indeed, DWCC is in the midst of competency and efficiency backed up by its outreach programs, external affairs, national and international activity invitations.

In 1995, DWCC was selected a Center of Excellence for Teacher Education in Region IV by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This had been followed continuously by reaping honors and awards in different local, regional, national and international levels. Highlighting this is the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE-DWCC Chapter) bagging the national championship and representing the Philippines in the international arena. These are just few of the many accomplishments DWCC garnered for years, for decades – for 58 years.
Being the paragon in education in Oriental Mindoro, it survived itself from the demands of the community, of education, of people’s mental uprising, development, of threats, of humanity’s cry for hunger and taste of evolution. It is in the general sense. We did survive those times. We did. That is also the reason why most of the successful, efficient and competent persons in various fields in Oriental Mindoro are products of this institution.
To wit, these are just some of the notable persons molded by DWCC:
Hon. Rafael Infantado – a person with integrity, honesty and has a sense of justice and fairness
Hon. Juan Paolo Luna - a person who serves as the inspiration of the youth; at a young age visualized innovations and courage
Hon. Joji Malapitan – a person who upholds the truth for the welfare of the people
Hon. Marino Ylagan – a person who truly imbibes local governance and fairness between and among members of the barangays
Hon. Vic Ulayan – a person who values education as an outlet in one’s personal growth and success
Hon. Allan Mañibo – a person who is persistent and firm in goal-oriented activities
And other honorable councilors who at present, in one way or another, stands for the truth and their support and beliefs for the DWCC’s vision-mission. Also, other Divinistas to be mentioned are just to be mentioned but the history will not permit us, generally, to hold them back. So many Divinistas. So many achievements. So many Divinistas. So many memories. For 58 years, so many…
DWCC salutes the former Col. Rodrigo Poja for his dedication and loyalty to the Philippine National Police. Until his last hours, he still imbibed the ideals of being a Philippine Military Academy graduate. DWCC is fortunate to have Col. Poja as an alumnus having finished his secondary education and a Graduate School student. He imbibed the ideals of DWCC. In its truest essence, he is a real Divinista.
These names spell victory and dedications. These letters spell success. Didn’t they? Don’t these people mastered their crafts in timely manner and styled their status in a coincidental way? It may happen. It may not. For the institution that shaped these persons blasted its core resources and mental possessions to the fore. These are just few who moved and will continue to move this city and the province to a more progressive one. This is not a coincidence. This is a planned coincidence.
Thus, the Divine Word College of Calapan, will not let these matter into oblivion. DWCC built its name for 58 long, hardworking, fruitful years. DWCC built its name in the palms of young Mindoreños’ hands. DWCC sculpted its image in certainty and reality of life. DWCC mastered its art…and is still dedicated and has unwavering vision to fulfill the aspirations of the youth, of the Mindoreño youth.
The Divine Word College of Calapan had been tried and tested in community affairs, educational management, arts, business, engineering, financial, etc. It already moved the walls once bizarre for us to change then. In short, DWCC is always on its climax.
That is why it is biased, unjust, one-sided statements made by Col. De Mesa of Philippine Army that pulled our heels up high now to position this institution’s concern – students. Being a catholic institution, the point of the matter is raising the young with high level of education in a reasonable obligation with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Now, tell us if we are being infiltrated as your remark leads into? Tolerance of such heinous and activities not relevant to education is not in our system. We value unity, not rebellion. We value a legal system, not illegal. We value human’s cause – human’s worthy cause.
The statements made are infecting our nerves. It soothes down inside the membrane. It reverberates. It manages to pinch. It does. But it is not painful. It is not due to the fact that those are not facts – merely illusions out of incomprehensive opinion. It is not painful because it just got inside, but it didn’t bite what this institution has. It’s just that we stood by the times 58 years and we will not just let all these things upside down. No things should be left unturned and unjustified.
We may not know it or we just ignore that within our family circles, most of the members are DWCC graduates or they have been in DWCC for a limited time or they just passed by. These corporate the composition of the DWCC: Having graduated holds the heart of being Divinista in its truest sense. Having been in a limited time shows the partial image of the institution in its broadest form. Passing by is illustrating the picture of the institution to the external in its expansive fashion.
This is to clear things out. To map the real and noble representation of DWCC is significant to the education status of Oriental Mindoro. Let us pause… a province named Oriental Mindoro … an educational institution called Divine Word College of Calapan. We are characterizing now a success.
Let us quantify. In the field of education: Oriental Mindoro = DWCC; Oriental Mindoro = Success; DWCC = Success. Therefore, Success = Success. Most of us hate Math but now, we are enjoying it as long as this correlation will bring back DWCC to where it should be.
No one, ever, can tarnish the veins of years of existence of this community. All of us are being strengthened by the entire community: employees, faculty members, students and parents. Students, being the bloodline of any educational institution, empower the hub of the schools’ values, moral ethics and principles.
Divine Word College of Calapan vehemently refutes those statements. For a weak institution, those comments are fiery. For a newly-established, those are blazing. For a newly-acquired, those are sizzling. For an unstable, those are flaming. With that, we are not experiencing any inferno. For DWCC is a strong, dynamic, value-driven and stable catholic institution.
Divine Word College of Calapan fervently denies accusations that it is an infiltrated school. The description is a preconceived notion. It is a baseless, malicious remarks to a definite, high standing DWCC. The institution is not bragging what it had accomplished. But is a gift-given to anyone who succeeded the demands of times. It just presents the things and issues need to be raised in times like this – being thrown out of the pedestal in which Mindoreños are the ones who put this institution in the position.
Divine Word College of Calapan fervidly rebuts that this institution is being penetrated by such. The curriculum mandates a social, educational and religious way of higher learning not a rebellious, idiocy and personal, moral and educational skepticism.
Divine Word College of Calapan, then Mindoro Junior College, was born July 6, 1946. History doesn’t know its zodiac sign. History doesn’t know its birthstone. History only knows its vision, its mission.
Divine Word College of Calapan chooses to wrest its laurels in Oriental Mindoro. It will lift the province’s claim to moral, social and educational certainty. It will. History knows its experiences with this community. History befriended DWCC. DWCC befriended history.
Who dares to say that DWCC is being infiltrated? Who dares to claim that DWCC is being ransacked by evil forces? Who dares? Will you question DWCC’s credibility? If you will say that the institution is an infiltrated school then let your own conscience guide you or question you…or dare you.
Far away there in the sunshine are our highest aspirations. We may not reach them but we can look up, see their beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead.
Where it leads. Where DWCC leads.

ISSUE 1

To provide support in the realization of the Divine Word College of Calapan vision-mission, the Finance Division seeks to develop an effective financial management and control system that would improve operational efficiency.

The Philippine Association of Accredited Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) last visited Divine Word College of Calapan on 1998. It was barely six years that passed since the PAASCU highly recommended that the institution should review its salary scale/scheme as part of the former’s evaluation to the latter. Six years.

One of the motivations wherein employees will perform at their best, in any kind of work management, is to receive a well-compensated salary as an output of their jobs. It is practical and real to say that money is a great motivator. After all, salary is not a privilege – it’s a right. That is the equation of exerting effort towards work and receiving salary above work.

But this scenario abruptly hounding us for years, for six years. The administration boldly admitted that it encountered or found discrepancies on the salary scheme of the teachers and employees. This already marked that there is a thing to be resolved and repaired. This is a financial matter to be looked sensitively. This runs our institution so concrete that it provides to its employees through proper, accurate and systematized salary system. This should be the scene.

We do not want all these things to be passed on again for another 6 years or 1 and ½ years for another deliberation of the administration. Lessons should be taken out of the problem.

Thus, we would like to stress, not just say, three modes of actions which the administration should have done six years ago:

One, an immediate general review of the teachers and employees salary scale/scheme. This will point out the similarities and differences, proper allocation of salary based on levels, experiences, etc., systematized compensation after immediate hiring, ranking of the employees and teachers, bracketing of salary as per position, weight of the position and corresponding commensurate salary.

Two, the inconsistencies had already been noticed. Why did the remedies not implemented immediately? Why didn’t the administration lay the necessary means to patch up the loopholes in the scheme? Why did this problem not taken seriously? Why? Is there a problem within a problem?

Three, the information about the matter should be coursed properly and timely. All the documents and related materials should be fastened as supporting the actions taken during the management of the problem. As we are in a professional community, no special courses to be studied for us to know that all moves and decisions should be done professionally.

The bottom is the administration should immediately freezed the financial quandary temporarily. Months had passed and years were counted – these are the results of neglect and broken assurance.

Better to be left than to be left out. The situation is on its height. The problem should be diagnosed as soon as possible. It is ripening.

We do have an answer. It is an answer that will cover us all – faculty, employees, administration. It is a step worthy to be acknowledged. After all, this is our community. This is our school. This is our ‘home’.

The answer is a dialogue and creation of Salary Protection Scheme Committee to be presided by the external consultant.. In this way, we can gather all our facts, reactions, bases, fairness, truthfulness and financial directions of the institution. In this manner, it is pro-action not a presentation.

This effort should be done at the most secured and stable time for this community. We said secured because to call this school a financially-secured institution is synonymous in saying what we were six years ago or so.

Enough of waiting for something that stability is shaking. Enough of the six long years. Dialogue is a step closer to the real picture of fiscal stature. Dialogue should be conducted as soon as possible. It is not just a request but a recommendatory instruction to polish all these difficulties where all of us are being affected. We don’t want to see the future showing us groping in the dark.

Better to be left than to be left out.

For being successful in any aspect needs experience, exposure, knowledge. This is the highlight of the linkages that the two institutions established and will bounded by cultural awareness, students’ competency and the scholastic growth of faculty and students alike.

This collaboration will strengthen our goals with the help of Seattle East-Asia Community College (SEACC). Indeed, Divine Word College of Calapan will brand its faculty and students as bastions of high-rated English speakers in Oriental Mindoro.

The scientific and cultural transformations that we aim are at hand. The technological advancement and the enhancement of languages will be mastered and crafted into perfection nothwithstanding the distance and location.

It is a normal thing not to preempt a serious matter, as business guru mandates. The goals will not succeed if we did, they added. The society says it is too early. But I know that will partnership will succeed.

They say it is too early. Well, it is, really.

MESSAGE 2

In academic jargon, enclosing students in a box is the same as putting them in an open-closed society. Open because they are in a literally open environment. Closed because the way of thinking and mode of learning are limited – enclosed.

I welcome Seattle East-Asia Community College (SEACC)’s collaborative effort in this joint educational venture with the Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC). Japanese and Filipino students will exchange their cultural know-hows and differences – not as a comparison but an inclusion of inputs and artistic revelations.

Our students should be apt to the times, as what both of our institutions are. This is an outlet of putting our languages system a step put ahead. We want to be as competent as we can and we will be. With the description of our missions towards academic liberation from convention, students exchange program and cultural linkages will pave the way for us.

We will defy the challenging times of education. Anyway, it is just a jargon.

MESSAGE 1

Committed in the improvement of the academic-based and educational system, it is certainly that the Divine Word College of Calapan is at par with top colleges and other academic institutions in the Philippines.

Located at the heart of Oriental Mindoro, the institution shows its graduates and bar topnotchers in the fields of Engineering and Accountancy. Moreover, the rest of the departments had long been tracked on different regional, national and international competitions – all of which in harnessing the competitiveness and competency in all specializations only DWCC graduates possess.

The partnership of Seattle-East Asia Community College (SEACC) and the Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC) will foster our common goals and lift our academic ambitions for the students, for the faculty and for the future. This will also mend our cultural background and educational set-up.

I salute to this noble undertaking – another milestone for DWCC, another gem for SEACC. This is a momentous episode of our endeavor, of our historic endeavor.

We are both defining the visions of our institutions.

DWCC POSITION LETTER

To provide for general education that will develop the whole human personality and seek to create a cultural environment that will prepare him to be professionally competent for life

The Divine Word College of Calapan or DWCC surged to its status to the urgent needs of the province of Oriental Mindoro.

DUDA/PANGAMBA

Duda/Pangamba

Emilson A. type='text'>DON'T QUIT

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must – but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow –
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup.
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt –
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

<img width='1' height='1'
